YiKi's Chingay reflection :)

On 25 January, we went on a trip to watch the Chingay celebrations. Chingay is an annual street parade held in Singapore as part of the lunar New Year celebrations. The term "Chingay" is derived from the Chinese term 妆艺(zhuangyi), meaning the "the art of masquerading".

This year's Chinagay theme is: "Colours of Fabric, One People, 布海同心." We observed people carrying poles attached to fabrics, waving in the wind and fascinating  floats like the floats of the different religions, clubs and community. This trip was most memorable for its celebrative atmosphere when it reached its climax.The crowd were cheering at the top of their lungs, taking infinite photos while the performers were trying their best to perfect their performance. The performances like lion dance and ballet awed the audience. There were many performers, ranging from young children to the elderlies who were present. Just imagine over hundreds of ballet dancers performing in front of you! The feeling was indescribable. With cheering and singing, the parade ended with the knitted flags hanging in the air and confetti flying all over the place. One of the flags was knitted by our school's students! I am glad that I went to this trip and I enjoyed it very much.
